The students at HPS not only learn academics at school, they also learn life long skills in our Adapted PE/Aquatics program. The Highland Pines Adapted Physical Education Aquatic Program strives to teach students to swim and be safe around the water. Application of aquatic knowledge and skills not only improves an individual's physical fitness, but also establishes framework for an active leisure pursuit appropriate throughout the life span. The benefits of water are enormous!

Mrs. Gray's classroom enjoyed time at the Octagon Barn last week. The students learned about the history of the barn, life cycle of bees, process of milking dairy cows and musical instruments. If you have never been to the Octagon Barn, you should check out the Fall Family Days on Sept. 7 & 8.

HPS celebrated our PBIS monthly winners. Be a Friend, Be Responsible and Be Safe are the three principals our students work very hard to achieve. This month's reward for all students who had no office discipline referrals was cookie decorating with the principals. What a delicious treat!

Mr. Lemuel's classroom has been very busy! They took a day trip to Bay City to see a show at the Planetarium and then enjoyed a delicious lunch at Grandpa Tony's. Bowling at Brentwood was also on the agenda for the students. I think their smiles show what a great time was had by all!

What a difference a day makes when it comes to Michigan weather. Tuesday our students enjoyed 70+ degree weather and soaked up the sunshine. Wednesday they were inside with below freezing temperatures and wind. A 50 degree drop in temperature and windy conditions is a big change over 24 hours.
