Identify Existing and Potential Sources of Funding
Finding and securing resources to support components of a coordinated school health program is a challenging task. Charting existing sources of funding as part of resource mapping for health activities, services, and policies can be a useful first step.
In seeking new funding to implement additional activities, services, and policies, schools should determine whether (1) the district already receives funds that could support new or expanded initiatives; (2) the district is eligible for such funds; (3) the district makes allocations to schools; and (4) the school is free to pursue additional funding independently. Creative thinking, patience, and perseverance are critical. For example, schools might blend dollars from a variety of sources to implement particular health-related initiatives.
